At the heart of this teaching lies a profound and often misunderstood verse: 2 Corinthians 8:9. For the glory of God, I want to reveal its true meaning and impact on our lives—especially its spiritual dimension, which far surpasses all earthly wealth.
“For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.” (2 Corinthians 8:9, KJV)
Many see this verse as speaking of material wealth—but those who seek the Father know that the Bible always points toward eternal values. Jesus did not bring gold or earthly treasure; He brought a heavenly inheritance. His poverty was that He left the glory of heaven, became man, was humiliated, persecuted, and ultimately gave His life on the cross—for us.
What does this mean for us? It means that Jesus emptied Himself completely so that we could be filled.
Philippians 2:6–7:
“Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:”
This emptying was not merely physical poverty, but complete self-denial, the surrender of heavenly glory. All this, so that we might gain a treasure that neither moth nor thief can take away.
Matthew 6:20:
“But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:”
This is the heavenly wealth—eternal life, righteousness, grace, and the gifts of the Holy Ghost. These are what Christ has purchased for us through His poverty.
Ephesians 1:3:
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:”
Our riches are not measured by our bank account, but by the eternal life God has given us. Jesus’ every sacrifice was so that we might be reconciled to the Father—and this relationship is more valuable than anything else.
Romans 5:1–2:
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”
As you can see, what Jesus brought was not gold or silver—but eternal glory, accessible to every believer. You don’t need to be rich in the world’s eyes, for in Christ, all things are already yours.
1 Corinthians 1:5:
“That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;”
And if someone still worries about material needs, let them remember this:
Psalm 34:10:
“The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.”
The key to heavenly riches is this: look unto Jesus Christ, not your circumstances. True wealth cannot be bought—it must be received by faith. And Jesus did everything to make it available.
Closing Thought:
Do not trade the treasure of heaven for the dust of earth. Jesus gave up everything so that you might have everything in Him—let Him be your only riches.
2 Corinthians 6:10:
“As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.”
Amen.
Let me share 3 Scriptures that help us better understand the importance of receiving Jesus and its inevitability.
Romans 10:8 – 10
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
If you’re reading this today and you want to be with our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ in eternity, know that this verse shows you how to do it. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. In the following sections, I will guide you through how to confess all of this before our Father and our Lord Jesus.
John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. These are the words of Jesus.
You can be born again as the Bible teaches: you need to confess
your faith. After you have been born again, say this short but very important prayer
with your loved ones, relatives, friends, and all those who believe in Jesus Christ. Because to be born again, we must confess our faith. This is what the next section is about.
I believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
I believe that Jesus died for my sins,
according to the teachings of the Bible.
I believe that Jesus rose from the dead,
for my justification.
Please, Jesus, be my Lord!
Please, Jesus, be my Savior!
Please, Jesus, be my Healer!
Jesus, You are my Lord.
Jesus, You are my Savior.
Jesus, You are my Healer.
I am redeemed. I am born again in Christ.
His holy blood has cleansed me from all sins.
This is the truth, for the Word of God is truth.
Thank you, dear Jesus. Amen.
For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Matthew 10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
