What Does the Bible Say About Sickness?

Why is it important to accept Jesus Christ into our hearts?

Many believers wonder in their hearts: if God is love, why does sickness exist? Is sickness from God? And what is His will for our lives when our body is not functioning the way it should?

Let’s start with the book of Job, where a commonly quoted story unfolds:

“And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.”

(Job 2:6)

This Scripture clearly shows that it wasn’t God who made Job sick, but Satan. God allowed the trial, but He was not the source of it. It is important to see that Satan requested Job, and the sickness he brought was the work of the enemy – not God.

This is consistent with the teaching of the New Testament, where Jesus says:

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

(John 10:10)

Sickness, destruction, and death are the works of the thief – that is, Satan. But Jesus came to bring healing, life, and abundance.

And if we look at the testimony of the apostle Peter about Jesus, we get an even clearer picture:

“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”

(Acts 10:38)

We read again: those who were sick were under the oppression of the devil – and Jesus healed, delivered, and restored them.

Let’s also look at the Old Testament teaching, where God Himself promises healing:

“…If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.”

(Exodus 15:26)

God is not the bringer of sickness, but the Healer. His will is not sickness, but healing.

Let us pause for a moment here. Many people believe that sickness is the result of some hidden sin or a sign of God’s anger. While disobedience can indeed open the door to the enemy’s work, not all sickness is caused by sin.

“And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.”

(John 9:2–3)

Jesus wasn’t focused on the past, but on the future: what God wanted to accomplish in this man. The emphasis is not on the reason for the sickness, but on the power of God that brings deliverance.

So how does healing come? The answer is found in Isaiah 53:

“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

(Isaiah 53:5)

This Scripture promises not only spiritual but also physical healing. The apostle Peter confirms this as well:

“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”

(1 Peter 2:24)

Past tense! We don’t merely hope for it — Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross has already taken place, and that sacrifice guarantees our healing.

Our responsibility is what Ephesians 6:11–17 tells us: put on the armor of God and use the sword of the Word – because the Word does not return void.

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

(Isaiah 55:11)

So if you are sick, don’t stay silent. Speak the Word, stand on the promises of God, and in the name of Jesus, command the sickness to leave. This is not magic, but the authority Jesus gave us:

“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

(Luke 10:19)

Finally, let’s not forget that God’s will is not only healing, but that we walk in continual health:

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”

(3 John 1:2)

This is God’s heart’s desire for you.

Let me share 3 Scriptures that help us better understand the importance of receiving Jesus and its inevitability.

Romans 10:8 – 10

8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

If you’re reading this today and you want to be with our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ in eternity, know that this verse shows you how to do it. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. In the following sections, I will guide you through how to confess all of this before our Father and our Lord Jesus.

Read this prayer out loud with faith in your heart, for what is written there is faithful and true.

John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. These are the words of Jesus.

You can be born again as the Bible teaches: you need to confess

your faith. After you have been born again, say this short but very important prayer

with your loved ones, relatives, friends, and all those who believe in Jesus Christ. Because to be born again, we must confess our faith. This is what the next section is about.

Prayer for Salvation.

I believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

I believe that Jesus died for my sins,

according to the teachings of the Bible.

I believe that Jesus rose from the dead,

for my justification.

Please, Jesus, be my Lord!

Please, Jesus, be my Savior!

Please, Jesus, be my Healer!

Jesus, You are my Lord.

Jesus, You are my Savior.

Jesus, You are my Healer.

I am redeemed. I am born again in Christ.

His holy blood has cleansed me from all sins.

This is the truth, for the Word of God is truth.

Thank you, dear Jesus. Amen.

For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Matthew 10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
